L’ANSE — The preliminary hearing scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 13 in Baraga County 97th District Court for Dawaun Johnson, 22, of University Park, Illinois, has been set for January.

A Friday afternoon email statement from the District Court stated that:

“A hearing was held regarding evidentiary issues. (The) Judge will be issuing a ruling following the stipulated admission of video evidence. (The) Prelim set in January.”

Johnson is accused of having been behind the wheel of a semi during a fatal October crash at the Holiday gas station that also started a fire when it struck the gas pumps.

Al Dantes Jr., 43, of L’Anse, was getting gas when the semi struck the gas pumps. He was transported to Baraga County Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
