S.C. man arrested in high-speed chase

HOUGHTON — A high-speed chase through Houghton and Hancock Tuesday night ended with the arrest of a South Carolina man.

Police began pursuing the man in Houghton around 8 p.m., when they received a notice to be on the lookout for a reckless driver.

The vehicle changed direction several times before entering Hancock, Houghton police said in a news release. Officers arrested the driver on Navy Street.

Houghton police were assisted by Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Hancock Police Department and Michigan Tech Public Safety and Police Services.

The driver, a 45-year-old man from Waterloo, South Carolina, was taken into custody. He is lodged at the Houghton County Jail pending arraignment. That will come Friday morning at the earliest, the district court said.
