Laurium man pleads not guilty to Jan. 6 charges
WASHINGTON — The Laurium man accused of participating in the Jan. 6 riot entered a not guilty plea to four misdemeanor charges at his arraignment in federal court Tuesday.
Adam Mancuso participated in a hearing via zoom before Judge Emmet Sullivan in District of Columbia District Court.
Mancuso faces the four misdemeanor charges facing most Jan. 6 defendants: knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority; intent to impede or disrupt the orderly conduct of government business or official functions, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building or grounds; and parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.
Six days after the event, FBI agents received tips of selfies Mancuso had posted on Facebook showing himself inside the capitol building. Matching him to footage based on a hat with the Hatchetman logo of Detroit rap group Insane Clown Posse, they identified him at several points inside the Capitol building over two entries that afternoon, according to court documents.
The case was continued for 90 days.
Tuesday’s hearing comes after the election of former President Donald Trump, who pledged to pardon a “large portion” of Jan. 6 defendants who had been convicted for protesting the certification of his 2020 election rival, President Joe Biden.
A status conference is scheduled to take place over Zoom at 2 p.m. Feb. 18. With Mancuso’s consent, the time until the hearing will be excluded from considerations for the Constitutional right to a speedy trial.
