State to recognize ‘Pure Michigan’ trails

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder has signed laws to recognize top-notch trails as “Pure Michigan” trails and to create a mobile app for trail users.

The six-bill package signed Thursday is intended to help showcase Michigan’s network of multi-use trails and waterways. The Pure Michigan campaign has helped market Michigan as a tourism destination.

The laws let the Department of Natural Resources director designate cities, villages and townships as a “Pure Michigan trail town.” Supporters say the designation will help local businesses cater to trail users.

Backers also say revamping the trail designation process will emphasize the ongoing development of a statewide, integrated trail system. The state will help create an online database of trail maps that could be downloaded and printed.

Starting at $3.50/week.
