Ripley racers roll at regional championship

RIPLEY – Three members of the Mont Ripley Racing Team, Jenna Stein (15), Allyson Fenton (14) and Katherine Jarvis (14), competed at Marquette Mountain in the USSA/Central Division U14 and U16 Championships. The races took place over three days from Feb. 20-22. The field of 180 competitors from around the Midwest raced in super G, giant slalom and slalom races.

Frigid temperatures greeted the competitors each day as they worked hard to stay warm.

Jenna Stein put forth “an outstanding effort and great skiing”, said MRRT coach Bob Vial. “She absolutely dominated the weekend for the U16 girls.” Stein’s performance gave her 1st place overall honors, followed by Fenton (6th overall) and Jarvis (20th).

“Allyson and Katherine had strong performances in their own right. It was fun to watch all three compete,” Vial said.

All three have qualified to compete in Steamboat Springs, Colorado at the USSA – Rocky / Central U16 Championships, March 1-7. The girls will compete in downhill, super G, giant slalom and slalom races.
