UPPCO announces temporary closure of Prickett fishing pier starting Monday

BARAGA COUNTY — The Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) has announced the temporary closure of the the company’s fishing pier facility at Prickett Reservoir. The pier will be closed to the public from Monday, Aug. 21 through Friday, Aug. 25, 2023.

In an Aug. 17 press release from UPPCO, Vice President, Business Development & Communications Brett French stated that the closure is necessary to support planned maintenance and facility improvement that are being completed by UPPCO.

Prickett Reservoir is a popular fishing spot for a variety of species, including largemouth bass, bluegill, black crappie and related sunfish, as well as yellow perch and trout.

Prickett Reservoir, also known as Prickett Dam Backwater, near Pelkie, is the site of one of UPPCO’s hydro electric plants.

UPPCO is also reminding the public to be safe whenever recreating near the company’s hydroelectric facilities and to obey all posted warning signs.
