Finlandia University hopes to raise $75,000 for student scholarships on Giving Tuesday which takes place this year on Dec. 3. Finlandia donors can double their gifts this Giving Tuesday, as the university will again have a matching incentive. Board of Trustees President Julie Badel has agreed to match all donations dollar-for-dollar that are raised, up to $20,000, for the second year in a row.

“We saw last year how much of an impact Julie’s match made and are grateful to her for offering another match this year,” Director of Marketing & Communications Olivia Myers said.

Last year, Finlandia’s Giving Tuesday campaign raised over $65,600 in 24 hours. All donations received for Giving Tuesday in 2018 went toward FinnU’s annual scholarship programs to help keep FinnU affordable for current and future students.

“Finlandia serves a large population of students who never thought they could afford to attend college,” said Myers. “FinnU’s scholarship offerings make their dream a reality by allowing them to receive a quality education at an affordable price.”

Currently, 100% of full-time domestic students receive financial aid.

Like last year, Finlandia is also participating in Facebook’s Giving Tuesday program, in which they will match the first $7 million donated that day. Donors are also encouraged to check with their human resources department at their employer to see if they are part of a matching gift company.

As a special feature, Finlandia will be hosting a live video segment on Facebook at 7:45 a.m. on Dec. 3. There will also be various student stories shared across FinnU’s social media platforms and ways for donors and viewers to participate throughout the day.

Giving Tuesday officially takes place on Dec. 3 this year, but FinnU will accept donations at any point leading up to and on the day.
