Michigan’s “Shark” to swim with cannonball for veterans

CHICAGO — Jim “The Shark” Dreyer is introducing a 22-mile public swimming event in Chicago and will himself swim all night with a cannonball to support disabled U.S. combat Veterans in July of 2022. Dreyer, age 58, of Grand Haven, Michigan, is an accomplished open water swimmer who has swum across all five Great Lakes and been recognized as a Stan Lee Superhuman on the History Channel for aquatic feats of strength. LANSING – Governor Gretchen Whitmer joined the Michigan Economic Development Corporation today to announce Michigan has received the top award in the nation from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) State Trade Expansion Program for the upcoming fiscal year. MDHHS launches online access to immunization records for Michiganders ages 18 and older

LANSING – To help Michiganders ages 18 and older more easily access their immunization records, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has launched the Michigan Immunization Portal. Michigan adults with immunization records posted in the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR), including COVID-19 vaccination, will be able to locate their own record online and download, save or print this information. New pedestrian bridge set in place at Lower Tahquamenon Falls in Chippewa County

Contractors used a helicopter today to lift the four sections of a new 142-foot-long pedestrian bridge into place at the Lower Tahquamenon Falls. The operation began this morning after a rain delay and took about four hours to complete. Barricades at Tahquamenon Falls State Park allowed park visitors to safely view portions of the work from outside a 200-foot safety zone. “This bridge will allow for easier park staff and emergency services access to help maintain and keep the island safe,” said Tahquamenon Falls State Park manager Kevin Dennis. State Police to hold U.P. wide recruiting event

NEGAUNEE, MICH. The Michigan State Police will be hosting a U.P. wide recruiting event on Friday, Sept. 10 and Saturday, Sept. 11 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day. Every post in the Upper Peninsula will be participating in this event, including the Manistique Outpost. Sergeants will be on site to answer questions and hand out information regarding the process to become a part of the Michigan State Police.
