Toini Marie Kangas Heikkinen Granroth

TAPIOLA – Toini Marie Kangas Heikkinen Granroth, 104, of Tapiola, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2016, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.

Toini was born on January 7, 1912, a daughter of Arti and Hilda (Hiltunen) Kangas and attended the Trimountain and John A. Doelle schools.

Toini was married to Ernest Heikkinen in 1935 and he passed away in 1936. In 1940, she married Russell C. Granroth and he died in 1966.

Toini is survived by her daughters, Joyce (Carl) Swanger of Tapiola and De Leon Springs, Florida, and Carol (Jim) Clem of Jackson; sons, Rodney (Faye) of Point Mills, Erwin of Hubbell, Charles (Joanne) of Salem, Oregon; 14 grandchildren;19 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; as well as many, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents and husbands, Toini was also preceded in death by two sons, Russell J. and Bert Granroth; one daughter, Paula Granroth; two brothers, Albert and Bill Kangas; and three sisters, Dorothy Juntunen, Sylvia Bean and Eleanore Ruhinen.

The family wishes to thank Dr. McKenzie and the staff of the Houghton County Medical Care Facility for taking such wonderful care of Toini for the last four years.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at the Mountain View Mortuary in South Range, with Pastor Sally Wilke to officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Elo Cemetery.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at 11 a.m. in the Mountain View Mortuary, South Range. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service.
