Michael Allen Hendrickson

WHITE PINE — Michael Allen Hendrickson, 63, of White Pine, passed away on March 27, 2018, at his home, from an apparent heart attack.

Mike was born in Milwaukee, to Anna (Luokka) and Douglas Hendrickson on November 11, 1954. He attended school in Lower Michigan.

Mike worked at Coach Light Restaurant as a busboy during his teen years. He also was one of the first employees at the Holiday Gas Station in Ontonagon, worked for Pastry Palace, and Greenland Township.

But what he was best known for is his 30+ years as a garbage man for Roska Route (now Waste Management.)

Mike enjoyed working on cars and helping out family and friends whenever something was needed. Mike’s favorite payment for helping others was “Boiled Cookies.” He loved all of his nieces and nephews, even if they were the “furry kind!”

One of his favorite stops on his route was at Trail Family Daycare. All of the children called him “Uncle Mikey.” They would run to the window, or even out the door, just to say “Hi” to Uncle Mikey, and he always had a big smile and a wave for them.

Mike is survived by his best buddy, Snicker, his scottish terrier; his siblings, Sandy Kotlaris (Stan Niemi) of Ontonagon, Jake Hendrickson of Calumet, Linda Thoreson of White Pine, and David (Becky) Hendrickson of Ontonagon; aunts, Martha Parkin of Ontonagon, and Barb Friend of Warren; uncle, Donald Hendrickson, of St. Claire Shores; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Butchy Hendrickson; two nephews, Michael Paul Kotlaris and D.J. Hendrickson; and a special brother-in-law, Gordy Thoreson.

A graveside service will take place on Friday, July 20, 2018, at Forest Hills Cemetery in Houghton, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ted Trudgeon officiating.
