Richard Andrew ‘Dick’ Laru

OAK CREEK, Wisc. — Richard Andrew “Dick” Laru, passed away on June 13, 2019, in Oak Creek, Wisconsin.

Dick has finally returned to his beloved Copper Country where in his heart he never left. He enjoyed being “up home”, especially when he was able to spend time at ‘the camp” on Misery Bay.

He was born to Andrew and Fannie (Niemi) Laru and was a 1951 graduate of the Jeffers High School. Shortly after graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy.

On June 6, 1953, he married the former Marilyn Maitz.

Following his military discharge, Dick worked for Atlas Powder Co., White Pine and the Duncan Sawmill. Eventually, the couple moved to Milwaukee where Dick worked for and retired from Harnischfeger Corp.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; brother, Jim (Sharon); sister, Joyce (Susan); sisters-in-law, Margaret Maltz and Beverly White; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 29, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at the Painesdale Methodist Church, with Pastor Mary Laub to officiate.

Burial will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range.

If desired, memorials may be directed to the Painesdale Methodist Church, The Copper Range Historical Society, or the Painesdale Mine and Shaft.
