Dennis E. Tolsdorf
CHASSELL TOWNSHIP — Dennis E. Tolsdorf, 81, a resident of Chassell Township, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
He was born on January 26, 1939, in Detroit, a son of the late Edward and Helen (Mysliwiec) Tolsdorf. Dennis was raised in the Detroit area and graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1957.
Dennis was a veteran; he served in the United States Army as a company clerk, where he also won many awards for his branch of service while playing baseball. Following his time with the Army, Dennis became a State Farm agent in 1968. He served the Detroit Metro community for 27 years. He was a tremendous athlete all through his life, excelling in baseball and hockey, but his passion was the Detroit Red Wings.
In 1992, Dennis was united in marriage to the former Amy Elisabeth Valant. In 1995, Dennis retired and the couple moved to the Copper Country.
In 1996, they opened a small custom cabinetry and art glass business. Over the years, they also enjoyed restoring old homes all around the Copper Country. Dennis was very talented; he was a gifted classical pianist, cabinet maker, artist, and athlete. He was a lover of all animals, especially his cherished big dogs. He loved them so much they deserve to be named here: Tyler, Blue, Moose, North, Pi and Q.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his sister Nancy; and his cousin/brother, Bruce Tolsdorf.
Surviving are his wife, Elisabeth Tolsdorf of Chassell Township; his children, Julianne (Mark) Henzi, Marc Tolsdorf, Stephanie (Kevin) Konopka, Kelly (Chris) Paulett; his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his cousin/brother, Terry (Lucy) Tolsdorf; his nieces, nephews, cousins, and many beloved friends; he enjoyed renewed connections with his niece and nephew over the years, and truly found that his Copper Country friends were his family.
A private prayer service for Dennis was held at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock.
