Kenneth M. O’Connor
HOUGHTON — Kenneth M. O’Connor II, 79, a resident of Houghton, passed away Wednesday January 6, 2021, at the Omega House in Houghton.
He was born on August 29, 1941, in Houghton a son of the late Kenneth M. and Rose (McGuire) O’Connor. Ken was a graduate of the Houghton High School and attended Michigan Technological University.
On June 15, 1968, he was united in marriage to the former Brenda Kilpela.
Mr. O’Connor worked for the City of Houghton Public Works Department driving dump trucks before beginning a career working for Copper Country Mental Health, retiring as a direct care staff worker.
Music was always a big part of Ken’s life, he loved being active with the local music community. He would also play lead guitar for Pete Antilla’s and Howard Hart’s Jam Sessions. He also enjoyed playing at the Aura Jamboree, Agate Beach Jamboree, at the Doelle Senior Center, the Houghton County Medical Care Facility or any place a lead guitar was needed.
Preceding him in death were his parent and his brother Joe.
Surviving are: his wife: Brenda O’Connor of Houghton, his son: Kenneth M. (Holly) O’Connor III of Chassell, his grandchildren: Amanda, Tyler, Ayla, and Aili, his great grandson: Kajika, his sister: Mary Kerttu of Dodgeville and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service for Ken will be held later this year at the family lot in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.
