Nancy Chartier

HOUGHTON — Nancy (Victor) Chartier, 87, a resident of Houghton passed away Monday, January 18, 2021, at UP Health System – Portage following a lengthy illness.

She was born on October 21, 1933, in Hancock, a daughter of the late Clyde and Dagmar (Frost) Chappell. Nancy was raised in Houghton and was a graduate of Houghton High School.

On August 4, 1956, she was united in marriage to Victor Chartier. The couple resided in Houghton from that time, and they raised their family.

Nancy was employed out of high school for Newberry’s Department Store in Houghton as a bookkeeper, working for 47 years until the store closing. She also worked for Parkside Bakery for a short time.

Mrs. Chartier was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Houghton. She was active with a Bunko Group for 50 years which formed many lasting friendships. She enjoyed spending time with her family, going to the camp, trips to the casino, and most recently taking daily long car rides with her husband.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her daughter Kay Chartier, her brother Jim Chappell & infant brother Curtis Chappell and a niece Kim Ellegood.

Surviving are: Her husband: Victor Chartier of Houghton, her brother: Clyde Chappell of White Lake, Michigan. Her daughter: Karen (Keith) Anderson of Houghton, her grandchildren: Stephanie (Erik) Nettell of Houghton, Aaron (Dominique Blanchard) Anderson of Minneapolis, her great grandchildren: Morgan and Kade Farrell, Brycyn and Paige Nettell, her nieces: Jennifer Chappell (Kurt Mach), Lilly and Conner Chappell, Nicole Chappell, several cousins and special friends, Donna and Beverly and her Bonko group

Visitation will be on Saturday, January 23, 2021, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. with a service to be held at the Memorial Chapel Funeral home of Hancock with Rev. Eric Falker to officiate. All attending are asked to follow proper COVID-19 protocols and please wear a mask. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.
