Kurt Kiviniemi

LAURIUM — Kurt Leon Kiviniemi, 63, of Laurium, died Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at UP Health System – Marquette.

He was born November 14, 1957, in Calumet, a son of Robert and Marilyn (Rautio) Kiviniemi. He was a 1976 graduate of Calumet High School. Kurt was employed for several years as a meter reader with UPPCO. He also served as a volunteer fireman for the Laurium Village Fire Department. In his youth, he was a hockey goalie for Calumet High School and the Copper Country Chiefs. He will be remembered by his family as a social person who enjoyed spending time with friends & family.

He also enjoyed making pasties, cooking, gardening, canning, berry picking, making his infamous thimble berry jam, pool shark, hunting and fishing.

Kurt is survived by his children, Matthew Kiviniemi of Taylor, South Carolina, Kyle (Jessica) Kiviniemi of Asbury, Iowa, Mandy (Mike) Wyatt of Marquette and Megan Kiviniemi of Marquette; grandchildren, Jerzey, Kammie, Tye and Taylor; father, Robert (Linda) Kiviniemi of Laurium; siblings, Butch (Kelly) Kiviniemi of Dorr, Russell (Patti) Kiviniemi of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Larry (Nancy) Kiviniemi of Ishpeming and David Kiviniemi of Hancock; close friends, Mike Szukiewicz and Jeremy “Cobra” Maki of Calumet; and nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister, Peggy.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer and will be announced.
