Ronald Steube
Jan. 15, 1959 - April 4, 2025

Ronald S. “Scott” Steube, 66, of West Bend, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on April 4, 2025.
Scott Steube was born on Jan. 15, 1959, in Denver, Colorado, to the late Richard and Ruth (née Rehbein) Steube.
Before embarking on his academic journey, Scott traveled out west to the Rockies, embracing the adventurous life of a professional ski bum and lift mechanic.
After settling down in the Midwest with his then wife, he went to work as a steel inspector on skyscrapers in Chicago, Illinois. This led to him earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in materials science and engineering from Michigan Technological University, along with certifications in specialties such as welding and magnetic particle testing.
Most recently he worked as the Sr. Metallurgist for Toshiba America Energy Systems out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
His passion for the outdoors was only matched by his dedication to helping others; he was a certified NOLS Wilderness EMT; served as a National Ski Patrol instructor, instructor trainer and regional director; was president and instructor trainer of Superior Search and Rescue; and acted as a first responder in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
A true lover of nature, Scott thrived in the wilderness and excelled in silent sports like skiing and biking. His artistic side shone through his avid photography, where he captured the beauty of the outdoors he cherished so deeply.
Those Scott leaves behind to cherish his memory include his daughter, Tess (Josh) O’Connor; his canine companions, Minka, Gitche, Sisu, and Cedar; his girlfriend, Barbara Wheeler; his former wife, Barbara Paige VanPelt; and other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Mont Ripley National Ski Patrol and Superior Search and Rescue in his honor are appreciated.
