CALUMET — Edward “Eddie” Swetich was born in Calumet, April 25, 1956, the youngest and only son of Marion (LaRochelle) and Edward A. Swetich. During high school he worked at Jim’s Pizza. He had a knack for electrical work at a young age, and after graduating from Calumet High, took a two-year course at Michigan Tech University in electrical. He did some general contracting work in South Carolina and ended up in Colorado where his son Luke, was born. CHASSELL — Russell W. Soumis, known to many as Penore, 81, a resident of Chassell, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at UP Health System – Portage following a short illness. Russell was born on March 20, 1944, in Chassell to the late William and Marie (Barrette) Soumis. He was raised in Chassell and attended schools locally. On March 22, 1961, Russell enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served two years and seven months in Germany.
