Former teachers help teachers with care packages

This week’s bouquets go to:

Two local teachers received boxes of school supplies and tokens of appreciation recently from other former teachers. Emily Lightfoot and Michelle Carne received the boxes of supplies and gifts donated from members of the Delta Kappa Gamma, Beta Sigma chapter. Beta Sigma chapter includes members from Dickinson, Delta and Menominee counties as well as from the Oconto area. Members have been distributing Colleague Care Packages to schools in the region.

Emily Lightfoot teaches third grade at Holy Name Catholic School in Escanaba. Principal Joe Carlson commented “Emily is a great teacher because she truly cares for her students as individuals. She has gone above and beyond to take care of her students’ spiritual, academic, social and emotional needs.” As the COVID 19 pandemic has presented unprecedented challenges for educators, Emily has excelled “with a smile and a positive attitude”.

Michelle Carne, a graduate of Escanaba High School, teaches first grade and is the Varsity Girl’s Basketball Coach and volleyball coach at Nah Tah Wahsh School PSA and Hannahville Indian School in Wilson. Superintendent Matthew-Johnson Reeves, notes that Michelle has “navigated the endless challenges facing K-12 schools with COVID” and has had a “tremendous impact on her students and the larger school community. She is certainly a great role model.”
