On Tuesday, Joe Kirkish was featured on page one of the Daily Mining Gazette. It wasn’t the first time Joe had been on the pages of the DMG. In fact, Joe has been a part of this publication, in one way or another, for decades. As a columnist, reviewer and contributor, he has been a treasured addition to the Gazette and our readers.

The reason for his recent appearance on these pages was the occasion of his 100th birthday party at the Bluffs.

Dozens of Joe’s family, friends and fans gathered to show him love and appreciation for all Joe has done and meant to the Keweenaw.

His accomplishments and contributions are far too numerous to mention. The DMG would like to take this opportunity to recognize Joe for all he has done, not only for the Gazette but for the arts, education, cultural and historical communities of the Keweenaw.

Happy Birthday Joe, congratulations on a life well lived, and God willing, is far from over.
