Magazine article brings attention to U.P. issue

The New Yorker, one of the most prestigious publications in the United States, turned its attention recently to the controversial proposed vertical-launch facility that would be located on private property in Powell Township near Lake Superior. The lengthy article was written by David Rompf, whose articles and essays have appeared in many notable publications such as The New York Times and Newsweek. Rompf is familiar with the Upper Peninsula, having been born in L’Anse. The plan for the facility, part of the Michigan Launch Initiative, was announced in 2020. It surprised a few ...

Thank you, graduates

Last weekend, Michigan Tech University and Finlandia University both sent out a new set of graduates into the world at large. Both sets of graduates, for the most part, have had four-or-more years in the area, where they spent their time studying, enjoying the local outdoor spaces, and sitting down in our local restaurants, or at least driving through them, if time did not allow for sitting. The publication was the result of a breakdown of our editing process. The Daily Mining Gazette has taken steps to address appropriate sanctions and has reaffirmed our standards to guard against this type of procedural breakdown happening ...

It’s an idea mirrored by a number of other efforts nationwide to reign in absurd inflation in insulin prices during the past few decades that have some people with diabetes putting their health at risk by skipping doses or rationing the life-sustaining drug. Lawmakers far and wide, including ...

Get children caught up on vaccines

Each year, National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) focuses on the positive impacts of vaccination on the lives of infants and children — and this year it’s a priority to ensure that families stay on track for routine checkups and vaccinations following disruptions from COVID-19. On-time vaccination is critical to help provide protection against potentially life-threatening diseases. During National Infant Immunization Week, April 24-30, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) urges parents to ensure their children are fully vaccinated on time for the best ...
