DNR should not manage farming

To the editor:

I don’t agree with judge Soika’s decision to side with the DNR over Greg Johnson’s hunting ranch. Where is our Department of Agriculture?

When you raise livestock and breed them for characteristics and then consume the product, it is called farming. Why is the DNR involved if the pigs are bred for characteristics that allow them to gain weight and grow in an outside environment? It should make a healthier product. If you have ever eaten barn-raised versus outside-raised animals, you know there is a difference.

If the DNR is allowed to manage farming, then raising your own livestock will become a thing of the past.

As far as feral pigs … what feral pigs? There were a few at Point Abbaye and a few people wound up with good meat in their freezers.
