Baltic speed signs protect kids

To the editor:

I am writing this in regards to the article about the signs in Baltic. I have lived on the same street for 30 years. In those 30 years, the number of children on 12th and 13th avenues has tripled.

Speeding has always been an issue in this town. In the article, it was stated that there are speed limit signs coming into Baltic and leaving. There are a total of three speed limit signs – three. One sign coming up from Elsie Road, one coming in from South Range, and one coming in from Onkalo’s Corner Road.

The signs are all approximately a half-mile apart from each other. Out of the nine streets located in Baltic, that is it.

There is a reason why 45 residents signed that petition, and there is a reason why the township felt it was in the best interest of Baltic to put up more signs. I understand they were not put up correctly, and I understand they did it without a permit.

What I don’t understand is why it is so difficult for the county road commission to see what is in the best interest for the children in our community. I can only hope that this issue gets resolved before an innocent child is injured, just because a few extra mph signs could not be posted.
