Immigration system is corrupt

To the editor:

Our current immigration system is not broken but has been corrupted by both parties. The democrats want enough votes to trash the constitution, take over, and remake the government. With three arms of the government, they would elect an emperor, and we would be lost. Unfortunately, many Republicans also want open borders for cheap labor to help its many constituencies. Has anyone thought that cheap labor, and our unemployed citizens, would not have the money to buy anything? Why would allegedly intelligent people want to rule a Third World economy?

Here is my solution to our Immigration mess.

Start obeying existing laws

Close our borders until a rational immigration system is implemented

Define an optimal population size and skill need inventory

Summarily deport illegal felons, gang members and visa overstays

Implement a bulletproof guest workers plan

Stop the illegal “anchor-baby” process

Terminate all benefits, including medical, to the legally ineligible

Replace welfare with workfare

Only accept applications for citizenship by people whose cultures, and history, have demonstrated a constructive ability to assimilate and function in western countries

At this point, reorganize our government, beginning with a business plan with accountability and zero-based budgeting. With the dead wood cleared out, implement a comprehensive reorganization with defined jobs and skills, as does the military and all efficient companies and organizations. It’s called effective staffing.

An example of staffing-by-immigration was the key to development of the copper mining industry in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The initial immigrant miners were recruited from England in the 1800s. These Cornish miners were renowned for their hard-rock mining skills and their ability to design, build, use and maintain their equipment. They also spoke the language of their management. Later, they were complemented by other ethnicities.

I’m 83 and knew many of them, and they were proud to be Americans and worked hard to learn English. Patriotism flourished among these immigrants and their Judeo-Christian and English law background accelerated their assimilation into the U.S. This is visible again in the success of our highly educated Asian Indian immigrants.

As a final thought: why do the Democrats and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce want this unchecked immigration? They want open borders for more voters and cheap labor. However, on the other hand, they are rabid about population-driven environmentalism, climate change, resource usage, sustainability and overpopulation. Sounds like a severe case of cognitive dissonance.
