To the editor:

I find the plans for Houghton’s waterfront troubling. Waterfront space should be for everyone’s benefit not just for tourists. Why is there this big push to develop water frontage? We have a limited amount of it, why clutter it up with buildings. These spaces should be open with minimal development for everyone’s enjoyment.

Let us suppose the hotel was filled, the congestion from cars and people in that limited space would not be pleasant. If the hotel is not filled then why build it.

There has been some effort to improve Lake Shore Drive. The planned development will make the space behind existing buildings even more unpleasant. Opening up Lake Shore drive with modest development is the direction to move, not packing a lot of stuff in that small area. Why are you trying to jam all that development in such a small space?
