Postal change disappointment

To the editor:

In the new year the United States Postal Service is threatening to raise the international letter rate by five cents, from $1.15 to $1.20.

The rate is already abusively high. It is already complicated for people who depend on this service to pay these rates. Further increases will further endanger people’s livelihoods and, indeed, their survival.

Artists, in particular, may depend on international mail. The result of all of this will not endanger artists, as the high rates are already endangering artists, but is already driving down art and is particularly already causing mail art exhibitions not to happen and mail art to shrink, to contract, to become less rich and less creative. The USPS should understand that we are not punching bags. The USPS should rethink its abusive and exploitive attitudes.
