To the editor:

The world must be wondering what’s going on in the United States. There’s ole Uncle Sam with two large black eyes. The first black eye was the result of a bungled approach by an incompetent president and cowering Senate to the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in perhaps doubling the deaths and savaging the economy.

The second black eye occurred in the protests and burnings of buildings, including a police station, in Minneapolis. The latest senseless killing of a black man was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Racism is still alive in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Jefferson’s words seem to fall on deaf ears for a segment of the population.
