Working to dismantle racism

To the editor:

The members of the Keweenaw Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (KUUF) believe Black lives matter.

We join Unitarian Universalists throughout the nation learning to do the work of dismantling racism in ourselves and our institutions. This work is urgent and at the same time, it may take a lifetime. We must undertake specific actions with specific outcomes–right now. We also know we must remain persistent as we work to create a more equitable, racially diverse and inclusive society.

Nothing less is acceptable.

What is required is great change in our hearts and actions. We expect the path forward will be filled with uncertainty, fear and confusion. It also has the chance to be breathtakingly beautiful as we all are liberated from the brutality and dehumanization that currently dominates as normal.

We know people throughout the Copper Country, many from different faith traditions, are seeking a world where Black lives and the lives of people of color matter.

Let’s be persistent, together.

KUUF has started a “Persistence Calendar.” Right now, the calendar is populated with events–actions and study opportunities–that will move us forward, toward our goal. Everyone is invited to be part of those events. If you have events that can help dismantle racism in ourselves and our institutions, please submit them for inclusion on the Persistence Calendar. You’ll find the calendar at keweenawuu.org.

Help us keep this calendar energized for as long as it takes.
