Please don’t sign SECURE MY VOTE

To the editor:

The SECURE MI VOTE petition suggests Michigan’s voting process is not secure and to “fix it,” voting must be harder.

Hand recounts, audits and the GOP report, led by Sen. Ed McBroom, prove our elections are secure. To secure our elections, here’s a sample of the security processes in place:

To register, you must prove citizenship, identity, and residency. When you’ve passed the tests, your signature is put on file and you are added to the Michigan master list of eligible voters.

If you vote at the polls, you must vote at your precinct, provide a picture ID, and you are checked for an absentee ballot so you can’t vote twice.

If you vote absentee, and your application passes the eligibility tests, a ballot is sent to you. For subsequent elections, an application is sent to you.

Ballots of the dead are not counted because the master list of eligible voters is line with public records.

Voter fraud is a felony. People are caught and prosecuted; the fines are steep and prison time is a possibility.

I urge you to call your rep./senator and ask them to work on seven bills (5513 to 5519) to make voting easier.
