To the editor: It just doesn’t make sense. The Houghton-Portage Township School (HPTS) District’s recently passed bond issue will primarily fund a new early child center for K-5 students that isn’t needed, yet the School Board wants to build a new 25,000 square foot facility to include 8 new class rooms, gymnasium along with other capital improvements at a cost of $23 million dollars. On Saturday, February 22, local teens came to the Little Gem Community Center in Lake Linden and engaged in fun activities while learning how to manage anxiety and other moods, how to promote mental wellness, and to hear stories from people in recovery. TO THE EDITOR: Leaven is yeast. A little leaven changes ingredients into a large loaf of bread. Leaven is a Biblical picture of sin. Quite often sin will change a person into being someone he/she does not want to be. Sin always does damage. It is a plague. Avoid it. To the editor: Lake Linden-Hubbell Public Schools recently sent out a newsletter providing information regarding two proposals that will be on the May 6 ballot for District residents. The first proposal, of which there might be some question, is to renew the current operating millage. This is a renewal of EXACTLY what exists currently, not raising the millage rate, but only extending the duration on non-homestead properties.
