Democracy in Action

I attended the H/PT School Board meeting last evening and learned, among other things, that: 1) Copper Country citizens care about their schools and are willing to come out on a very cold night to participate in their local government. Many people spoke up, and everyone listened. Opinions were varied, but all were expressed respectfully. 2) Taxes are unpopular. This isn’t news, but it’s important to understand that people feel the burden of taxes differently. In every system of taxation (sales, income, property) fairness and transparency are essential to winning public ...

Immortality in America

America is facing some huge problems to deal with like immorality, socialist government, fading freedoms, censorship and stolen elections to name a few. Christians are vilified yet anti-Christians are celebrated. Early Christians had just one mission, i.e., the Great Commission which was to evangelize and lead new converts to follow Christ. Have you noticed we’re failing miserably and allowing Christians to be demeaned? As a nation America is lost. Our duty before God is to obey Him and preach the Gospel. 2 Timothy 3:13 warns “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, ...

Heartlands Heartbreak

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) has been pivotal in preserving public use of 32,000-acre Heartlands. Ownership of a 20,000-acre portion will soon transition to a “Municipal Entity” governed by a five-person elected board. But parts of the Heartlands remain controlled by confidential corporate leases and are at risk of commercial exploitation. According to TNC, Black Bear Inc. (BB) confidentially leases Heartlands parcels and has applied to rezone for commercial development. The application includes 1,000+/- feet of undeveloped Lac LaBelle shoreline owned by TNC. Rezoning would permit ...

Faith perspective: Follow the Lord’s guidance on Election Day

As an independent voter and a Christian, it is hard to know who to vote for in the upcoming presidential election. Both of the candidates were chosen by God as the Bible says but both parties now have ideas that are ungodly and make it hard to vote for anyone. Civilly, the Democratic Party is for the middle- and challenged-class of people, but morally, they fall short of what the Bible teaches. They want to please all people, not just a certain group, like religious or secular groups of people. The Republican Party is for the wealthy and today has lost its moral compass with Donald ...

Looking for good role models

Clearly it’s desirable to have a president that will be a role model for our children. What will our children learn from Donald Trump (a person whose life is the antithesis of the life of Jesus) who continually distorts and lies, who calls people who disagree with him nasty names like a 5th-grade schoolyard bully, who is thrice married and has had extra-marital excursions, who is narcissistic in the extreme, who has admired dictators, who gave a massive tax cut to the already morbidly rich, who denigrated members of our armed services, and being sociopathic is void of any empathy for ...
