Lions show grit, toughness on road

DELTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Junior Jacob Oom recorded a triple double as the Finlandia University men’s basketball team (1-23) took a hard fought 107-75 loss to Great Lakes Christian (15-11), Tuesday night at the Doty Center.

Freshman Kaleb Kirksey knocked down a jumper to make it 6-2 at the 16:27 mark. Great Lakes Christian ran off a 20-4 run to lead 26-6 with 9:59 to go.

Down 23 at the 6:37 mark, the Lions went on the attack. FinnU was launching 3-pointers left and right. Just before the buzzer, sophomore Tristan Johnston dialed one in. That closed a 19-6 run to trail 40-30 at the break.

In the second half, Finlandia continued to attack the basket. Freshman Riley Hendrickson dropped one in from the bleachers to make it 44-38 with 18:06 left in the game. The Lakers went on a 20-8 run over the next six minutes to finally pull away.
