Lions soccer wins first match of year
HANCOCK — It was a tough physical game as the Finlandia University men’s soccer team (1-1) beat Crown (0-2) 3-2 in overtime, Saturday night at McAfee Field as 31 fouls and eight cards were called on the night.
At the 5:23 mark, senior Osvaldo Cruz sent a long pass down the field. Freshman Wandile Ngwenya got the ball scored to the left to make it 1-0. Crown came back just under a minute later to tie the game.
In the first five minutes of the second half, Finlandia had two shots that just missed. Freshman Mohamed Koroma scored on a penalty kick at the 65:50 mark to make it 2-1. With 19:35 left in the game, the Storm scored on a PK and it was 2-2.
