Lions and Foresters slug it out

HANCOCK — It was another 60 minutes of SISU as the Finlandia University men’s hockey team (0-5 NCHA, 0-7-1) lost 5-3 to Lake Forest (1-2 NCHA, 4-5-3), Saturday night at the Houghton County Arena.

Lake Forest started quickly, scoring just 1:12 into the contest. With 1:45 left in the opening period, junior P.J. Donnelly blew the puck past the goalie to tie it up.

In the second period, Finlandia scored twice in a 29 second span to lead 3-1 with 16:31 left in the middle period. The Foresters managed to score twice to tie it back up. Senior Phil Schader had a shot saved at the last moment as the period ended.

After several near misses by both squads, Lake Forest got a goal at the 7:32 mark of the third period. Nick Wiencek made two great plays to keep his team in the lead. The Foresters got an insurance goal with 3:32 left.

Nine different points recorded points for FinnU. Sophomore Max Messier had 12 faceoff wins for a .600% win percentage. Sophomore Dakota Meyer had 22 saves.
