Tech’s Petersen named GLIAC Player of Week

BAY CITY, Mich. — Michigan Tech’s MacAulay Petersen was named the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Huskies in kills over their week split at Grand Valley State and Wayne State.

Sophomore outside hitter, Petersen, racked up 26 kills to lead the Huskies to a 1-1 mark over the weekend which included a five-set marathon defeat at Grand Valley State. The Huskies fell 18-16 in the final set before sweeping Wayne State 3-0 on Saturday in Detroit. The Paw Paw, Mich. native averaged 3.25 kills per set this week hitting at a .333 clip while committing just four errors.

“Mac has had a nice start to her season and that continued this weekend with two more solid performances against Grand Valley and Wayne State,” said Tech head coach Matt Jennings. “She stepped up once again for us and took on a huge part of the offensive load. Two well played matches for sure.”

Petersen has led the Huskies in kills in 11 of their 15 matches this season. Petersen currently ranks third in the GLIAC in both kills per set (3.56) and total kills (185).

“She works hard and is always wanting to improve,” added Jennings. “Coachable, Mac is a really great presence in our gym and we’re not the same team without her. It’s nice to see her dedication and performance get recognized. It’s well deserved and we’re proud of her.”

The Huskies host a pair of GLIAC South opponents this weekend at the SDC. Friday’s match versus Ashland begins at 5 p.m. with a 4 p.m. first serve versus Tiffin Saturday. Tech is currently in a three-way tie for fifth place in the GLIAC standings with Ashland and Tiffin.
