Rajala’s Kitchens tops KBear 102, 13-12
LAURIUM — Rajala’s Kitchens traveled north to face KBear 102 at Gipp Field in Laurium. Offense was the story of the game as Rajala’s snuck away with a 13-12 victory.
Rajala’s scored five runs in the first inning. Connor Helminen started with a double. Drew Larson and Jared Freeman had singles to help drive the offense.
KBear responded with three runs of their own. Nikko Johnson and Matt and Owen Peterson all had singles to help get their offense.
Rajala put up more offense thanks to timely hits from Helminen, Blake Heltunen, Brycyn Nettell, Larson and Max Bier.
Heading into the bottom of the fifth, Rajala’s held a five-run lead. Needing a big inning, KBear got in by racking up five runs to even the score. They combined walks, some timely steals and a home run from Owen Peterson to pull back into the game.
Helminen got things going in the sixth for Rajala’s with a single. He later scored on a passed ball, giving the visitors the lead again.
Nettell followed up in the bottom of the sixth by striking out the side to earn the save.
