Calumet, LL-H in MHSAA football playoffs this week
The high school football playoffs have arrived, and a pair of local teams are involved.
Calumet (8-1) will host Negaunee in a MHSAA Division 7 pre-district at 7 p.m. Friday.
Lake Linden-Hubbell (6-3) visits West Iron County in a Division 8 pre-district at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Both games will be broadcast on 920 AM/107.3 FM WMPL with pregame shows beginning a half-hour before kickoff.
The Copper Kings beat Negaunee with a 30-6 victory on Sept. 6. Calumet is coming off a 50-28 win over L’Anse last week. Calumet’s lone loss came to Iron Mountain on Oct. 4.
Negaunee lost 42-14 to Westwood last week, ending a six-game win streak.
The Copper Kings have outscored opponents 309-97. Negaunee has outscored opponents 239-180.
Lake Linden-Hubbell, the smallest 11-player football school in Michigan, beat Manistique 54-21 on Saturday.
West Iron County won an Oct. 5 matchup 24-16 against Lake Linden-Hubbell.
The Lakes have outscored opponents 312-139 this season.
West Iron County is coming off a 33-14 win last week at Norway. The Wykons have outscored opponents 225-127.
