HANCOCK — Finlandia University nearly ended a long losing streak in men’s basketball Tuesday.

But the Lions ended up dropping a 92-85 game to St. Scholastica in overtime.

“I thought we had our chances to win,” FU head coach Sam Casey said. “The kids wanted this one badly … I feel for them.”

The loss was the ninth in a row this season and 30th in succession dating back to last season.

The Lions held a 44-36 lead after one half behind the play of Riley Hendrickson and Dylan Underwood.

But the Saints used a 1-2 scoring punch of Nick Carlson and Jarold Wilken to rally back.

Carlson potted a game-high 37 points, while Wilkin added 22 markers and 19 rebounds.

Stef Marzette and Underwood led the Lions with 19 points apiece.

Joe Heinonen was next with 16 points, Kaleb Kirksey added 13 and Hendrickson put in 13.

“I can’t say enough about the play of Riley Hendrickson, he was all over the court. His leadership was outstanding,” Casey said.

Finlandia will be idle for two weeks before meeting Michigan Tech in an exhibition game.

ST. SCHOLASTICA (92) — Carlson 37, Rademacher 4, Goggleye 5, Wilkin 22, Silgen 17, Anderson 7.

FINLANDIA (85) — Hendrickson 13, Heinonen 16, Kirksey 14, Underwood 19, Marzette 19, Moultrie 4.
