Tech’s Ghormley, De Marchi named to All-Tourney team
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — Michigan Tech volleyball juniors Laura De Marchi and Olivia Ghormley were named to the NCAA Midwest Region’s All-Tournament Team after Saturday’s championship game.
The Huskies swept No. 22 Missouri St.-Louis in the quarterfinal on Thursday and fell 3-1 to No. 10 Hillsdale Friday in the semifinal.
De Marchi, of Milan, Italy, averaged 12 assists per set, totally 84 assists in the two matches. She also tallied 20 digs, seven kills, four blocks, and three service aces.
Ghormley, of Oneida, Wisconsin, had 27 kills and 26 digs in the two matches, averaging 3.86 kills and 3.71 digs per set. She also tallied three blocks, an assist, and a service ace.
Thursday’s win was the first NCAA victory for the program since 1995. Tech finished the season with a 24-8 record, winning the most matches since 1996.
Rockhurst won the regional and advanced to the Elite Eight. The fifth-seeded Hawks had a five-set win over Ferris State and sweeps of Lewis and Hillsdale.
