Girls Basketball: Lakes sink key FTs in win over Blue Bolts

LAKE LINDEN — Lake Linden-Hubbell overcame a four-point deficit to beat Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 31-24 on Thursday.

At halftime the Lake Linden-Hubbell girls knew they had their work cut out for them. They were down 15-11. Poor shooting and turnovers had hurt them in the first 16 minutes of the game.

LL-H head coach Jack Johnson called for some changes and they worked as the Lakes went on to win.

“I wanted our girls to apply some more pressure on defense and look to attack the basket on offense,” Johnson said. “We were able to shoot 11-20 from the free-throw line in the second half which allowed us to get back in he game.”

Megan Corrigan led the scoring charge for the Lakes with 10 points. Jamie Hendrickson came alive in the fourth to attack the basket according to Johnson.

“Corrigan and Kaci Destrampe also provided us with a vmuch needed spark rebounding and pushing the basketball,” Johnson said. “Ultimately we can credit this one to our defense only giving up nine points in the second half, which allowed us to hang on to the Battle of the Bay trophy.”
