Troy commits to Lions’ women’s hockey

HANCOCK — Cassie Troy has committed to play for the Finlandia University women’s hockey team. She is planning on majoring in Biology.

Troy, a goalie from Bailey, Colo., had a solid career for the Laramie Outlaws (19U) and Wyoming Bandits (AA-Tier 2).

“I chose Finlandia so that I could play hockey and study biology,” Troy said. “I love the area and I’m excited for next year.”

Troy had a .930 save percentage during the last season for the Bandits. Troy traveled to Sweden in the fall of 2019 to compete for the USA in the Women’s Floorball World Championships.

“Cassie joined our team for the last two seasons. For her to play here, it required a lot of extra dedication and hard work,” Laramie Outlaws head coach Josh DeBerard said. “A lot of this took an intrinsic motivation to practice very early in the mornings and drive up to 10 hours for a few games over the weekend. This just demonstrates what a hardworking and dedicated player and person Finlandia will be getting in Cassie Troy.

“She is a very strong goalie and an even stronger person. Cassie always maintains an even demeanor and everyone looked to her for the calm, focused and cool backstop. She is also a very accomplished floorball goaltender and has been with the 19U Team USA floorball team for quite a few years. Cassie is the epitome of perseverance and Finlandia will love having her as part of their family.”
