Garnet Garage earns season-opening victory

STANTON — Chris Saari threw a complete game gem to help Garnet Garage in a lopsided 12-3 win against Stanton on Tuesday.

Saari struck out seven, walked one and gave up three runs on seven hits across seven innings.

Saari got run support as the flood gates opened in the middle innings as the offense scored 10 runs.

Mike Saari doubled and singled twice while scoring three times for Garnet Garage. Will Romano walked twice and singled, scoring three times.

Stanton had chances to score, loading the bases in the first inning of a 1-1 game before a fly out and groundout to third base ended the threat.

Chris Neilson had two singles for Stanton. Erik Nettell missed a home run to right field in the fifth inning by a matter of inches, and settled for a single. Connor Hannon, Kevin Bostwick, Eli Luoma and John Crawford also had hits for Stanton.

Carter Nettell started on the mound for Stanton and lasted 2 1/3 innings. He gave up four runs on one hit with six walks and five strikeouts. Luoma pitched 4 2/3 in relief, giving up eight runs on eight hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.

Garnet Garage (1-0) hosts REL Inc.-Mohawk Technology at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Stanton Field.

Stanton (0-1) visits Dean Kangas-State Farm at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hancock Driving Park.
