Bostwick, Donnelly commit to FU hockey

HANCOCK — Houghton natives Kevin Bostwick and PJ Donnelly will be on the ice in 2020-21 for the Finlandia University men’s hockey team.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise since the two played three years together at Houghton High School. Following graduation, Bostwick and Donnelly spent the 2019-20 season with the Soo Indians 18U AAA team.

“PJ and I felt the business program would be good for us,” Bostwick said. “Being from the area, the chance to play at the HOCO (Houghton County Arena) was a big factor. Of course, it’s always nice to play in front of the home crowd.”

At Houghton, the Gremlins were 56-25-2 and reached the Division III state championship game in 2018-19. Bostwick had 16 goals with 66 assists for 82 points in his four-year career. He was a three-time Division III All-State selection earning first team honors his last two seasons.

Donnelly had 16 goals with 23 assists for 39 points and earned Division III All-State honors as a senior. He finished his three-year career with 29 goals and 50 assists for 79 points.

“It’s my home town and I wanted to stay close to home,” Donnelly said. “The last couple of years have been pretty good seasons for Finlandia. Kevin and I feel like we can be impact players here.”

With the Soo Indians, the two were among the top six scorers on the team. Bostwick had 11 goals with 15 assists for 26 points while Donnelly had seven goals with 16 assists for 23 points.
