Roundup: Wickstrom leads Gremlins

HOUGHTON — Stella Wickstrom scored a double-double to lead the Houghton girls basketball team in a 72-30 win against Iron Mountain on Monday.

Wickstrom led the Gremlins with 10 points and 25 rebounds. Paige Sleeman led the Gremlins with 19 points and Ellen Trewhella scored 15.

“We worked hard on defense the whole night,” Houghton head coach Julie Filpus said. “After a rough shooting first quarter, we loosened up and put some points on the board.”

Girls: Chassell 57, Watersmeet 34

Trisha Pietila scored 12 points to lead Chassell past Watersmeet on Monday. Ally Etelamaki scored 11 points.

Ontionna Brunk led Watersmeet with 17 points.

Chassell led 33-24 at halftime.

Girls: Calumet 64, Westwood 48

Elli Djerf scored a team-high 15 points to lead Calumet past Westwood. Marybeth Halonen scored 12 and Alexis Strom and Lizzie Torola each scored 11 points.

Natalie Prophet and Ellie Miller both scored 15 points for Westwood.

Calumet led 36-20 at halftime.

Boys: Dollar Bay-TC 56, Chassell 51

Davin Hill scored 22 points to lead Dollar Bay-Tamarack City past Chassell on Monday.

Karl Rautiola scored 16 points and Dean Pietila scored 13 to lead the Panthers.

Chassell led 29-22 at halftime.

Hill scored 10 points in the third quarter as the Blue Bolts took a lead into the fourth. He scored seven more in the fourth to help put away the Panthers.

Boys: LL-H 57, Republic-Michigamme 40

Marcus Sutherland scored a game-high 23 points to lead Lake Linden-Hubbell on Monday. Travis Ongie scored 15 points.

Sutherland started hot, scoring 11 points in the first quarter and 19 before the half.

The Lakes led 40-16 at halftime.

Logan Hanninen led Republic-Michigamme with 16 points.

Boys: Jeffers 77, Ironwood 42

Christian Hocking scored his 1,000th career point to lead Jeffers past the Red Devils on Monday.

Hocking scored a game-high 26 points.

Johnny Schutz had 18 points, Ashton Kunishige had 15 and Levi Frahm scored 12.

Aiden Boyd led Ironwood with 12 points.

Boys: Chassell 79, Watersmeet 65

Rautiola scored 39 points in leading Chassell past Watersmeet last week. Pietila scored 19 points and Daba Holmes scored 11.

Rautiola scored 14 points in the first quarter and had 26 points by halftime. He hit three 3-pointers in the second quarter. Pietila knocked down three triples in the third quarter.

Chassell led 41-39 at halftime.
