Three Huskies players get WCHA honors

HOUGHTON — Three Michigan Tech hockey players received WCHA monthly awards for February.

Michigan Tech’s Blake Pietila, Colin Swoyer and Arvid Caderoth received the honors in an announcement Tuesday.

Pietila, a sophomore, was named Goaltender of the Month. Swoyer, a junior, was named Defenseman of the Month. Caderoth was named Rookie of the Month.

Pietila was also named Goaltender of the Week after winning three games last week.

The No. 19 Huskies (17-8-1, 7-5 WCHA) swept rival Northern Michigan last week. Tech went 9-3 in February, scoring an average of 3.25 goals per game while allowing 1.66.

Pietila went 8-2 in February, with a .928 save percentage and a 1.7 goals-against average. He leads the WCHA with a .939 save percentage.

Swoyer scored a conference-best eight points in February, including three goals and five assists. He was also a plus-7 on the ice. He was named Defenseman of the Week twice in February.

Caderoth scored eight points in February with a goal and seven assists. He leads conference rookies with 16 points this season.

The Huskies visit Minnesota State (16-3-1, 11-1) to close out the regular season.

ALSO: Pietila was named a finalist for the 2021 Mike Richter Award, presented annually to the top goalie in men’s NCAA Division I hockey. Pietila’s 14 wins is fifth-best in the country.
