Johnson set to play for Finlandia

HANCOCK — Erik Johnson (Marquette, Mich.) has committed to play for the Finlandia University baseball team.  He is planning on majoring in Sports Management.

Johnson joins Cash Bassett (Haskell, Texas), Joey Britt (Jacksonville, Fla.), Cale Fransen (West Bend, Wis.), Brandon Gaskin (Katy, Texas), Quajae Harvin (Orlando, Fla.) and Ethan Reed (Zionsville, Ind.) in the recruits for 2022.

“I’m extremely excited to add Erik to our program,” said Lions coach Evan Brandt. “He is a great athlete with the ability to play anywhere on the field.  Erik will profile as an infielder for us as he has had a great summer for the Blues at third base as well as for his high school program. His left-handed bat will impact our lineup as he flashes power with a great understanding of how to get on base at a high level. Erik’s intelligence on the field is something that has stood out for me; he is always making the right play at the right time. He is very fundamentally sound on both sides of the ball and will be a huge addition to this freshman class. Off the field, Erik is a high work ethic guy that will stop at nothing to perfect his craft. I see his character being a great example for young baseball players in the U.P.”
