Micklow, Michelin win MTU-PLGC Women’s Scramble title: Marquette duo top defending champions

HOUGHTON — The team of Sue Micklow and Jennifer Michelin won the 2-Person Scramble with a round of 2 over par 74, Tuesday, July 6, at the Portage Lake Golf Course. Their score was good for a tie with Nancy Osier and Mary Hintze of Ewen-Trout Creek, the defending champions.

Micklow and Michelin parred the extra hole while Osier and Hintze bogeyed.

Finishing in third place, one stroke back with a 75, was the team of Sheela Grazulis and Kris Saint-Onge of Marquette.

First flight winners were Trish Stein (Houghton) and Melissa Stein (Hancock) with a score of 78. Amy Chapin (Marquette) and Kaitlyn McKay (Houghton) also shot a 78, but lost going back on the card as did third place winners Vickie Lobeck (Chassell) and Sheryl Sorby (Houghton).

Second flight winners were the team of Barb Anderson and Anne Morin of Twin Lakes with a score of 81. Sarah Baratono (Hancock) and Molly Koskela (Houghton) shot an 81 as well but lost going back on the card from hole 18. Third place in the second flight was the team of Diane Makela and Vicki Sargent of Ontonogan, who also finished with a score of 81.

The winners of the skins were the Amy Chapin/Kaitlyn McKay on hole No. 6, Vickie Lobeck/Barb Rossi on hole No. 10, Anne Morin/Barb Anderson on hole No. 12, Shari Stockero/Melissa Vertin on hole No. 14, Sheela Grazulis/ Kris Saint-Onge on hole No. 15, and Vickie Lobeck/Barb Rossi again on hole No. 17.

Contest winners included Melissa Stein, Long Drive hole on No. 2, Sue Micklow, Closest to Pin on hole No. 4, Kiley Farrey, Closest to Pin on hole No. 15, Anne Warrington, Longest Putt on hole No. 9, Anne Warrington, Shortest Drive on hole No. 10, Melissa Vertin, Closest to Pin on hole No. 14, and Sheela Grazulis, Closest to Pin on hole No. 15.

The next tournaments hosted by MTU’s PLGC were a Senior Scramble, Wednesday, which will be followed by a Couples Tournament Saturday, July 24, and the PLGC Men’s Club Championship on Saturday and Sunday July 31 and Aug. 1.
