STANTON — Northern Driveline came back from an early 2-0 deficit to Craig Heinonen Coldwell Banker to post six runs and win 6-3 in Twilight play on Thursday. The magic for Northern came in the top of the fourth inning as they scored five runs.

The scoring began with pitcher Paul Raisanen slamming a shot up the middle for a single. Two batters later Trevor Hendrickson got an RBI base hit himself. He would score on an Evan Larson ball hit to shortstop and misplayed by Coldwell. It was not Coldwell’s first error in the inning. They had several missed balls and errant throws that Northern took advantage of. Before the inning was over, Austin Kinnunen and Justin Heinonen would both cross the plate.

“We hit the ball hard and put it in play,” said Northern’s player-manager Evan Larson. “When you do that, good things happen.”

Coldwell’s scoring came in the bottom of the first and the bottom of the seventh. With bases loaded Coldwell’s Andrew Kinnunen hit a two run RBI down the right-field line. Then in the seventh, Brett Halonen got on first with a single and scored on a base hit and a base hit by Carson Turner.

The victory was just the second one of the year for Northern and it was the best game they played all year according to Larson. Leading the way to victory was Northern’s hurler Raisanen. He threw a complete game with six strikeouts and two three-up-three-down innings.

“I felt really good on the mound as I was able to hit my spots,” said Raisanen, and that gave me confidence each inning.”

He added that he was grateful for the players behind him who backed him up with fine defensive plays. Defense he said has been Northern’s Achilles’ heel this season.

Larson agreed that his team’s fielding was above par on Thursday.

He said, “We finally played some defense for Paul (pitcher). He’s our starter who throws every game, and he deserves it.”

With the loss, Coldwell stays a game above .500 at 6-5. Player-manager Ross Kinnunen said errors killed their efforts especially in the fourth. He too commended Raisanen’s performance on the mound.

“Paul pitched a heck of a game,” Kinnunen said.

He added that having five subs in the lineup didn’t help the Coldwell cause.

“We had five positions that hadn’t been played in,” he said. “We didn’t have our normal team and that makes a difference.”
