Crusaders march past Lions

HANCOCK — The Finlandia University men’s basketball team (1-12) lost 114-80 to Great Lakes Christian (10-3), Saturday afternoon at the Paavo Nurmi Center.

The first eight minutes of the game was fairly tight. Junior BJ Williams scored in the paint to put Finlandia up 10-5 at the 15:24 mark. From there, the teams traded the lead several times.

With 12:06 left in the first half, freshman Noah Prestia dropped in a long-distance bomb to tie the game at 18-18. Great Lakes Christian scored 10 straight points to seal the deal.

FinnU pulled down 31 defensive rebounds to six offensive boards for GLC. The Lions shot 46.9% from the floor.

For Finlandia, Williams had 18 points and eight rebounds, freshman Rae’quan Funches scored 14 points with eight rebounds and Prestia had 10 points.

For Great Lakes Christian, Kylan Shipp scored 26 points.

Finlandia is off until Sunday, Dec. 19, when they take on Martin Luther on the road.  The game is scheduled to start at 4:45 p.m.
