Lions halt the Crusaders

HANCOCK – Three players scored in double-figures as the Finlandia University women’s basketball team (3-6) beat Great Lakes Christian (2-9) 82-32, Saturday afternoon at the Paavo Nurmi Center.

The game was a close affair for the first three minutes.  Up four at the 7:00 minute mark, Finlandia closes the period with a 13-3 burst to put the game away.

FinnU forced 28 turnovers which led to 28 points.  The Lions pulled down 36 defensive rebounds to  just eight offensive for GLC.  FinnU also held the Crusaders to 21.3% from the floor and 12.5% from 3-point range.

For Finlandia, senior Katie Lundeen had 16 points and 10 rebounds, junior Martina Jahfetson scored 14 points with four triples and freshman Maija Rice had 11 points and 10 steals.  Her steals are second best in school history.

For Great Lakes Christian, Randi Fitzgerald scored 12 points and Mystic Striker scored 10 points.

Finlandia is off until Sunday, Dec. 19, when they take on Martin Luther on the road. The game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
