Copper Kings pull away, hand Westwood 1st loss
ISHPEMING — Calumet pulled away in the fourth quarter to take a 52-39 victory at Westwood in a high school girls basketball game played Wednesday evening.
The Copper Kings led, but not by a lot, after each of the first three quarters — 15-8 after one, 24-15 at halftime and 37-32 after three.
But Marybeth Halonen scored seven points to lead Calumet to a 15-point fourth as Westwood managed just seven points.
Natalie Prophet led the Patriots with 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while teammate Mallory Leece added seven with three more Westwood players scoring six apiece — Alyssa Prophet, Jillian Koski and Megan Marta.
Jana Loukus paced the Copper Kings with 17 points, while Alexis Strom and Halonen each scored 12.
